Australia
The clinking of masts accompanies the salt and pepper calamari on the deck of the marina at Port Douglas. Wedding bells chime in the pretty St Mary's By The Sea, the glass altar window, bringing the Coral Sea inside. By the estuary an old salt seductively casts his line towards the distant mangroves and sits on his haunches. He'd like a barramundi but they are playing hard to get.
For Australians looking for a tropical honeymoon at home it has to be the resorts and islands of Queensland. From the fabulous islands of The Whitsundays, The Great Barrier Reef extends north to the islands off Cairns and the Tropical North. The Reef is simply one of the world's great natural wonders.
There are also quality mainland resorts dotted along the coast, particularly from Mission Beach up to Palm Cove and Port Douglas and into the Daintree Rainforest. For those who want the ambience of a cosy fire, perhaps a wilderness lodge in Tasmania beckons.
There are resorts to suit all needs and budgets as well as the romantic ambience of stunning white sand beaches, warm tropical waters, rainforests and heaps of things to do - swimming, snorkelling, diving or just some Day Spa pampering and colourful cocktails by the pool.
For those opting to marry in the tropics, it is easy to arrange from lodgement of the necessary documentation to the ceremony details to a celebration lunch or dinner or a reception if guests are being invited.
For overseas visitors, there are the options above that can be combined with other Aussie destinations and attractions. The only tip is not to try and do too much within a limited time. Australia is a huge country and rather than try to see it all, just select a few spots that may include one or two of the cities with one other destination (e.g. the Reef or the Red Centre or Tasmania).
